The Van Buren Sisters

In the summer of 1916 Augusta and Adeline Van Buren decided to ride across the country on motorcyles.  They were in their 20's looking for adventure, remember at this time they couldn't even vote.  They were trying to prove that women could do the job of dispatch rider in the Army.  These were two very interesting young women.
They chose two Indian Model F Powerplus motorcycle with 1000cc engines and rode from N.Y. City to L.A.  This was a 5500 mile journey on dirt roads.  They left N.Y. on July 14th and arrived in L.A. on September 8th.  Very courageous young ladies.
