I will not soon forget Sept. 11, 2001. I was working out in the morning before I went on duty at Station 1 with Vallejo Fire Dept. My wife had went into the house to get something and she said an airplane had hit one of the twin towers in New York. It actually seemed surreal, this could not be happening. I immediately went and got changed and went into work and actually watched the second tower get hit while on duty. It was like the whole world had flipped upside down.
They had us on high alert as there were rumors of attacks in the Bay Area. I was on Truck 1 that day and some of the guys I worked with knew Firefighters who died in the Towers as they had done training with FDNY. This was a day that changed America forever.
